Northbridge is immediately to the north of Perth CBD, Western Australia, and is accessible by foot from the Perth train station or the Wellington Street bus station. It is known for its wide variety of entertainment nightlife with DJs, live bands and nightclubs.

Northbridge also has cultural and historical aspects as is evident in the “Cultural Centre”, heritage walks, and old residential buildings including some of Perth’s oldest buildings such as the old Perth Boy’s School and Goal.

The “Cultural Centre” which consists of the State Reference Library, the State Records Office, the Art Gallery of Western Australia, the Western Australian Museum and the Perth TAFE (Technical and Further Education) centre are connected to the Perth railway station by a pedestrian walkway. The Cultural Centre and adjacent properties were previously a chaotic mix of residential, industrial and commercial properties, is now, an attractive cultural area”.

The cuisines found here are a virtual melting pot of tastes and flavours ranging from Greek, Vietnamese, Chinese, Thai and traditional English fare. A vast range of pubs, hotels, nightclubs and cafes offering places to drink and dance the night away are situated along James Street and Lake Street. The oldest continuously running LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) nightclub in the southern hemisphere The Connections is located in Northbridge.

Northbridge is also famous for its alternative shopping – William Street has a variety of independently owned business where you can find punk/goth/rockabilly fashion and footwear, graffiti art supplies, independent art galleries, anime/manga collectables and other unique stores.

The annual events held in Northbridge include the Perth International Arts Festival (arts, parades and concerts) in January/February; the Carnival Latino (masqueraders, puppets and parades) in February; Perth Food and Wine Festival in March and Pride Parade (celebrating Perth’s gay and lesbian community) in November.
