Mahogany Creek is a suburb located in the shire of Mundaring, Western Australia, about 27 km from Perth CBD or 40 minutes drive along Great Eastern Highway.
About 130 years ago, the historic Mahogany Creek Inn (the first “Halfway House”) was situated on the old York Road now known as Great Eastern Highway. The inn provided a resting place for early settlers traveling from Perth to York. The inn is still in existence and has a restaurant and accommodation. It is now heritage listed.
On the original Eastern Railway route, there was a railway station and a few shops close to the railway station, now only one of the shops is still open and sells various antiques.
The Railway Reserve Heritage Trail runs through this suburb. This trail forms part of the Old Eastern Railway, about 70 km of which was built from Fremantle to York in the 1880s. You will find unique individual history and character of each of the small settlements that developed and flourished along the trail.
Mahogany Creek provides one of the major recreational activities in Mundaring Shire. There are facilities for walking, cycling, horse riding and enjoying the panoramic view of flora and fauna in the Darling Range.
