Jarrahdale, Western Australia

Send to friend | Bookmark | Print

Jarrahdale is located 30 minutes drive or 50 kilometres, southeast of Perth, Western Australia in the Darling Range. The Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale is a Local Government Area of Western Australia and has an area of approximately 905 square kilometers.

The surrounding areas include some of Western Australia’s most popular parks, art galleries, restaurants, wineries and wildlife. The many forests, parks and rivers offer breathtaking picturesque scenery, a great place for a traditional Australian barbeque or to flex your muscle for some bushwalking.

Other than the natural attractions, there are many farms, orchards, historic country towns, old historic buildings, museum, arts and crafts and tea gardens. Many artists also build their homes and studios here. Jarrahdale was the first timber town in Western Australia, established in 1872 after it was granted timber concessions and is now listed as a classified Heritage Town under the National Trust. However, it was not gazetted until 1913.

This small historic town is dotted by landscape of a number of old timber cottages surrounded by jarrah forest. There are interesting close to nature walk trails and delightful picnic spots situated in Gooralong Park and Langford Park.

The Old Post Office which is also a Museum is open on weekends and public holidays and is helpful in providing tourist information, walk maps and arts and crafts.

Various accommodation is available. If you are more adventurous, you may want to try the refurbished old railway carriages modified to sleep 2 to 4 persons. Also available is a tavern, general store, fine dining and café food.
