Helena Valley is a rural suburb located 30 minutes from the centre of Perth. It is so named after the Helena River which flows through the town.

Geographically, Helena Valley is a river valley, a catchment centre for the Helena River. It is the “mouth” of the valley that extends and opens out to Swan Coastal Plain. Apart from the many rural houses, it consists of 2 estates and has a primary school situated at the foot of Greenmount Hill.

In the past, the valley has had railway lines running through it and the locomotives were pulled by steam engines. The terrain now is mainly made up of bushland. There are excellent bushwalks and bird watching activities to participate in and places of interest include the Railway Reserve Heritage Trail, the Stathams Quarry and the Darling Range National Park.

In town, a new shopping centre has just been built on Torquata Boulevard and there are smaller shops along Scott Street.
